The story behind the lens
My story began in the cozy city of Dnipro in Ukraine, where I was born in 1980. Back home, I graduated with Master Degree as "Energy Engineer", and I worked as an engineer for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems for industrial enterprises.
Since childhood, I've been fascinated by computers, and over the years, I became interested in programming. But in 2005, my interests expanded – I discovered the world of photography. It started with the purchase of a small digital camera, and by 2007, I had a professional DSLR camera with interchangeable lenses.
Initially, I experimented with landscapes and nature, but I soon realized that my passion lay in portrait photography, especially in photographing people. My first commercial wedding shoot occurred half a year after purchasing the DSLR camera, marking the start of my journey in professional photography.
What began as a hobby turned into my profession. In 2010, I decided to leave my engineering job and dedicate myself fully to freelance photography. Back then, I primarily focused on wedding, couples, studio, and street photography.
In 2014, my life took another significant turn. What started as a two month family vacation on Koh Samui, Thailand turned into more than ten years of life and work on the island.
And in 2025, there was another big change: my home and base became Lisbon, Portugal. Here I photograph families, couples and small brands, and I am happy to meet anyone who wants honest, relaxed photography in Lisbon and across Portugal.
The most important thing in being a photographer is not the gear, the location, or even the light that matters most. It's the feeling that stays with you after the shoot. That's what I try to capture in every image.
For me, photography is about preserving emotions. I want you to look at your photos and remember not just how you looked but how you felt. That's why the process itself needs to be easy and natural. I'll guide you through poses, offer suggestions, and give support, but I always leave space for your energy, your mood, and your story.
I work calmly and attentively. I always tune in to people – their rhythm, energy, and state of mind. I like it when everything's well-organized, but I also leave room for spontaneous moments, which often turn out to be the most valuable ones.
My goal is that when you look back at your photos a year, five, or ten years from now, you'll feel that day all over again. You'll remember the laughter, the nerves, and the way you looked at each other. I want these photos to live in your family, to be passed on, and to spark the same honest emotions.
Photography is my craft, my joy, and my responsibility. When you trust me with your moments, I do everything I can to ensure that it feels like the right choice.
Thank you for being here.
With love for light, color, and real stories
– Dimas
